Envy

Exploring flower essences
to help you transform the green-eyed monster
into self-empowerment

envy

  1. a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else’s possessions, qualities, or luck
  2. a gift to help us recognize and create the life we want

Who hasn’t had a bout of envy from time to time? The feeling of discontented or even resentful longing may arise at any time. Is there a way to easily recognize the feeling and use it to your advantage?

Envy is usually aroused by your perception of of someone else’s possessions, qualities, talents, or luck. It is the desire to have for yourself something that another has, or seems to have. Envy is often encased in resentment, bitterness and discontent. It may give rise to jealousy and covetousness.

What we envy in others is really what we want to manifest for ourselves. Instead of wishing others ill or being jealous for their having what you want, how can you transform the feelings into the impetus to manifest it for yourself?

At the Root of Envy

Why is it that when we see something that we want, the feeling sometimes goes to envy? Why don’t we see something we want and then just decide to manifest it for ourself? What happens inside that automatically brings feelings of discontent, resentment, and even bitterness, or the sense that you can’t or won’t ever have what you have seen? Is there some sort of switch inside that turns on these feelings and turns off aspiration and enthusiasm?

To deal with the underlying feelings of not being good enough, or [fill in the blank] enough, Inmortal is the flower essence to use. This essence can help go to the root of envy by addressing feelings of inadequacy and of not being good enough or less than you should be. It helps us give up these feelings to a higher power for transmutation. Inmortal can give us the experience of knowing our true inner self so that we respond to life from a center of deep, self-confident balance.

Moving Ahead

A great gift can be had by recognizing what you envy. Whatever you envy is something that you want, or at least you think you want. Often we have difficulty knowing what we want from life. We spin about, unsure of ourself, or are afraid to actually desire something. Whatever you envy in others shows you what you really want for yourself. If you can learn to uncover what your envy is attempting to reveal to you, it is possible to use your insight to begin the process of manifesting what you want. It takes courage and willingness to have experiences to properly use envy as a gift.

Envy usually involves a bit of fantasy. We usually imagine how we would feel if we possessed the thing or quality that we envy in another. However, the reality of its possession is sometimes quite another thing. Sometimes experience really is the only way to find out if what you envy is really what you want. If you discover that it isn’t, you are free from envying others. If you find that it is what you wanted, you no longer envy others for having something you don’t. Either way, you will have found a way to release yourself from what you envied.

Yet, how can you move forward into manifesting what you envy if you feel stuck, if the spark to move ahead is missing? Mountain Mahogany flower essence can be your friend in this case. This small desert tree can activate the will to move ahead, to get going. This flower essence is like a gentle but firm push to move onward to the next level of inner development. It shakes out the resistance and helps make forward movement a reality.

Finding Your Uniqueness

Sometimes when you begin to manifest something that you envied in another, you find that in fact, you didn’t want it after all. For instance, if you are of a stockier body frame and you envy someone’s willowy silhouette, you might find that following the diet and exercise required to look that way is not worth the final result. You might envy someone with a lot of money, but when you attempt to follow the lifestyle required to make it, and realize the type of effort required to maintain it, you might realize that you are better off in the life you have.

Star Leaf flower essence can help you appreciate your own uniqueness. It is wonderful to use if you do not fully appreciate your special gifts and contribution to life, or if you just don’t see that you have anything special to offer to the world. This is very often at the core of envious feelings and comparing yourself to others. Star Leaf is about simplicity, being simply who you are and being content with yourself. It can support a realization of the power you have when you simply be yourself.

Skewed Perception

Envy often arises from your skewed perception of another’s life. You may enviously view someone who travels all the time and visits foreign countries as lucky. Yet you may not realize how tiring, draining, and disruptive to your system constant travel can be. Envy may color your perspective with a glamorized version of someone’s life and then create a resentful longing for it. How can we see things with real eyes?

Pink Pond Lily helps us when we are stuck in self-deception, or when we are holding onto old ways of perceiving things. This gentle flower essence brings a freshness of perception, cleansing old patterns of seeing and perceiving. This is the essence to use to enhance inner honesty and self-acceptance. It can help you begin to see yourself and the world with new eyes.

Contemplation Brings Reality

You do not always have to have a full-blown experience of something to be able to see a realistic picture. Careful contemplation of the thing you desire can bring enhanced awareness of its reality. Periwinkle flower essence can support contemplation and examination of what it is you envy and bring a more expanded comprehension of the reality of its manifestation.

Creating Reality

If, in your inner exploration of your feelings of envy, you bump into feelings of bitterness or resentment, you might find Arroyo Willow to be of special support. Selecting the Most Appropriate Flower Essences

Not every flower essence mentioned above will be appropriate for every person’s specific needs. Usually, careful self-examination can clearly show you which of the above flower essences are most appropriate for your particular needs.

Though you can use more than one flower essence together, you probably will not need to use all of the ones mentioned here. After contemplating your relationship to this issue, select the flower essences that apply for you, or use an intuitive method to select among them. (For more information on how to do this, see The Art & Technique of Using Flower Essences.) A general guideline is to use four drops at a time, four times a day, in water. However, it is fine to follow your intuition and use them as often as you like. Most people find that they tend to use them more often in the beginning and less often towards the end of the cycle. Unless otherwise indicated, a cycle is usually two to four weeks. [more]
